  15. If you look back to some of the early Toaster Flyers, they mention the alpha
  16. channel being 8 bits.  When I asked their tech support why they didn't claim
  17. 32 bit framebuffers, I got the following reasons...
  18.  1.The software doesn't use it yet (This was 1.0)
  19.  2.There is only one alpha channel, and it is not fixed to either frame
  20.    buffer.
  21.  3.A lot of other products mislead users into thinking that 32 bit frame
  22.    buffers display 8 bits more color than 24s, and don't bother to explain
  23.    the alpha channel in their spec sheets.
  24. The last one may sound rediculous, but I had an Art professor go on and on to me
  25. about what a peice of crap the toaster was because it would only load in his
  26. files (after an ADPro conversion) at 24 bit planes, when he had created
  27. them on a Targa 32.  He ranted about how the colors were no longer as vivid,
  28. and the lost contrast.  I finally had to find the docs on his Targa to show
  29. him that it only was capable of 24 bit color.

  34. Oh yeah, upgrading on a 2000...  
  35. I doubt you will get real time playback of HAM anims.  The databus to the
  36. ECS chips is half that of the AGA, while HAM is 3/4 the bit plane depth
  37. of HAM8.  You will get the insanely cool new lightwave though.  I Think
  38. the "bones" feature will totally revolutionize the way we think about
  39. doing "organic" animations.  Anyone out there know if this feature is 
  40. brought down from higher-end packages, or if it is a NewTek origional?
